Five Creative Ways To Use Old Yellow Pages Books

Today, the Internet pretty much gives anyone a resource of businesses. Very rarely does a person pick up the yellow pages to decide on a contractor or service provider to fill their needs. This book has, for the most part, become obsolete, but your city insists on providing you with this book regularly for free. If you’re more of a web savvy person and don’t require the necessity of this large book, there are a lot of creative ways to use this resource. Here are five great examples of reusing a phonebook for a practical purpose.

1. Utilizing these large books as child booster seats has been a hallmark in the repurposing of the yellow pages. They are a great way to provide a free alternative to a booster seat that you have to pay for and they work just as well. You can also periodically replace them as new ones come out.

2. If you enjoy pressing flowers, yellow pages are great to use to make sure there is enough weight to properly press and dry them. You can also do a great deal of flowers all at once because of the sheer size of the book. When you have several, these craft projects could produce enough to sell your work.

3. The sheets of phone book pages are also great for effective glass cleaning material. Like newspaper, they are great when used with soft scrub to clean off hard-to-maintain glass tops to electric stoves. You can also create a solution of vinegar and water to thoroughly clean windows in both your home and your car.

4. When you have a lot of phone books, duct taping them together could create an easy step stool or aerobics tool to help. They are extremely durable to give you a long life of use. Of course, like the idea of child booster seats, eventually you will be able to replace them after a few years of collecting new books.

5. The paper in the phone book is also a great fire starter. There are a lot of applications including your wood stove, your grill, your fireplace, or for when you go camping. Just peel, crumple up, and place underneath your kindling for a faster fire every time you need to build from scratch. It’s a lot safer than lighter fluid and you have plenty of material for several uses.

If you’re concerned that the yellow pages is an obsolete way to advertise businesses in your local area, you can also make your voice heard by signing a petition to the Yellow Pages Association that shows your support for an on-demand distribution.
