Everyone would love to maintain their skin's tightness and plumpness as they age. However, some people fail to do so because of neglect and lack of effort. There are several reasons as to why our skin loses its elasticity and plumpness. Smoking, drastic weight loss, lack of protein, aging and unprotected sun exposure are only some of the leading causes of sagging skin. The skin is our body's largest organ which therefore requires extra care to prolong its firmness and suppleness. Without proper care and attention, the skin could lose its firmness causing it to sag. There are actually a lot of ways to firm up the skin, most of which doesn't even require you to spend a lot on. With this, let me share to you some tried and tested ways on how you can firm up the skin.

1. Eat right. Having good nutrition is probably one of the best ways to keep the skin firm. It may not be the easiest thing to do for most of us, but eating foods rich in antioxidants and nutrients like protein can really help fight free radicals that can cause sagging skin. Apart from eating right, it is also very important to keep the body hydrated by drinking at least seven to eight glasses a day. Keeping the skin cells hydrated helps the skin look toned hence making your skin firmer.

2. Take supplements. Vitamins and other essential supplements can help achieve and maintain a firm skin. Vitamins C and E, specifically can help tighten and bring back elasticity to the skin. Taking Omega-3 fatty acids can also help in keeping the skin toned.

3. Exercise. Having regular exercise is probably one of the most effective ways to maintain the firmness of the skin. It helps improve blood and oxygen circulation which helps keep the skin firm and toned. Apart from doing upper and lower body exercises, doing simple facial exercises can also help tighten up the skin on the face.

4. Facial skin care treatments. It is also a good practice to pamper yourself and indulge in facial skin treatments once in a while. A lot of day spas and facial salons offer skin firming treatments using a variety of products. Some use creams, some use machines, while some use the power of massage to tighten the skin. Apart from helping firm up your skin, it also helps your mind and body relax and unwind.
