Developing the Proper Muscles for Volleyball


There are many people that have a hard time understanding how they can get into shape for volleyball. The sport is not as straightforward with how you should train as many of the other sports that you can play. First, you want to make sure that you understand that you will have to jump. This means, you want to be strengthening your leg muscles so when you are at the net you are able to jump and attack or even jump and block. There are a lot of people that neglect to strengthen their legs when they are playing volleyball. They think that if they strengthen their arms they should be fine since they are hitting the ball with their arms throughout the entire game.
Although you are hitting the ball with your arms, you want to make sure that you understand that you are going to have to have power in your legs. You will have to be able to move around the court and jump when you are at the net. When you are strengthening your legs you should be sure that you understand how to utilize the proper weights. Doing weight training can help you improve your vertical jump to ensure that you are jumping to your full potential. Second, you should make sure that you are strengthening your core. When you are hitting the ball you will want to be able to twist through your hit and use the power from your core to make sure that you hit the ball as hard as you can.
While you are strengthening your core you can choose to strengthen your core in a gym or with your own exercises. There are many exercises that you can participate in that are going to work your body using only your own body weight. Third, you should make sure that you are taking the time that you need to understand how you are going to strengthen your arms. Neglecting to strengthen your arms will be a detriment to you when you are hitting, blocking and passing. Strengthening your arms does not need to be the first task that you focus on. Make sure that you understand how you are going to go about strengthening the other parts of your body before you are strengthening your arms.
Finally, you should be participating in drills for volleyball. There are many movements and patterns that you will have to learn by repetition and it is important that you are playing volleyball on a consistent basis so that you can learn them. While you are learning how you are going to move your body for volleyball you should be sure that you have a coach there with you. You want to be sure that you have someone that can point out the mistakes that you cannot see yourself. You should also be sure that you understand how helpful a video of yourself can be. When you video yourself you will be able to watch what you were doing wrong and change those patterns.
