Decorating cake is a skill that many people want to discover, and it is not all that hard to do it at a fundamental level. There are now commercially available frostings which can be intended specifically for people who are planning to furnish cakes. These frostings come in different consistencies so that you can get the right one for the species of decorating that you are doing. This will make things a lot easier since you won't have figure out the right consistency on your own.

One last tip that will really help you out when it comes to decorating your cake is to use several different layers. It is easier to decorate a torte in layers so you're going to get better results this way when you first start out. Of course it are probably not possible to create the design that you like by using layers but you have to keep in mind that cakes that don't use layers are usually for more advanced decorators. It is generally best while you are first starting out to stay on layered cakes after you have a bit of experience you may move away from them if you want.
