It is so easy to fall into the workaday rut. It happens to everyone, but particularly people who have to wear a uniform everyday. Having a few extra surprises in your wardrobe of scrubs helps lift your spirits during long hours at work, but it also brightens the days of your patients and coworkers. There are a few ways to shake things up and keep them interesting without adding time to your routine before your shift.
There are tons of prints available in scrubs, but if you really want a different look go for a completely different style of scrubs. Even if every pair of scrubs you own is a different color, print or pattern, if they are all the same style you will soon get bored wearing them. Mix styles of tops and pants so that your scrubs feel different as well as look different each day. Gray's Anatomy line of scrubs offers tons of styles in addition to interesting colors and prints.
Learn to accessorize. Accessories include jewelry, but also belts, caps, jackets or sweaters, stethoscope covers and even buttons for your top. You do not have to overdo it, an understated style is still a style. Just one or two simple accessories worn each day can make a huge difference in how you look and feel on the job.
Break out of your color rut. When you look in your closet you should see a bright array of colors, not just many outfits in one basic shade. If you depend too much on one color you may look as bored as you feel. The next time you buy scrubs, get a few colors you have never worn before. Then you will look different each day, and you will not feel the need to yawn when you open your closet to get ready for work.
Color ruts can extend to your shoes. When you wear scrubs every day, it may be tempting to wear the same style and color of shoe every day, too. It is not necessary to have a different pair of shoes for each day of the week, but having two, three or even four pairs can actually keep your feet from getting so tired. Sometimes even a comfortable pair of shoes makes your feet achy over a long period of time. If each pair is a different color and style, you will not look boring or feel so tired at the end of the week.
Having a few options available when it is time to put your scrubs on for work makes wearing a uniform more exciting. This can be a needed attitude boost when things get tough, as they always seem to do. And aside from the spring it puts in your step, it will put a smile on the faces of patients and coworkers because it is pleasant to be around someone who is happy.
