When are athletes and other celebrities going to learn? When you consider the facts that these people are well recognized and today’s technology is growing significantly, you’d figure they’d be more careful.
If they say or do something stupid in public, they’re just going to make fools out of themselves. Everybody will be posting content about it on Youtube, Twitter, Facebook and blogs and websites everywhere. Then, once that happens, the celebs get upset for being mocked and ridiculed and wish for the content to be taken down.
There’s no end in sight either. With today’s smart phones, it’s easy to take a video and quickly put on the internet for the world to see.
If I were to publish this post and then see it on other websites where people mock me and what not, I’m not going to be upset. Heck for one it’s on another site and they’re talking about me. Not to mention, if I didn’t want to be mocked, that’s something I should have thought about ahead of time.
How many times have you sent an email, tweet or facebook message then instantly regret it? It may have happened a time or two, but for these celebs, it seems like you hear about that all the time.
Perhaps when a person becomes famous, they ought to be required to take a course to help them deal with media and social media.
Just the other day, University Southern California suspended its running back, Marc Tyler, for making statements he shouldn’t have that got picked up by social media and TMZ.
A couple years ago, New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan was caught on tape flipping off fans of opposing teams and it didn’t take long for that to float all around the internet.
Then just this past NFL season, Ryan made some video with his wife, and after it got around on Youtube, he was annoyed and frustrated whenever some asked him about it.
Hey Rex, (and anyone else for that matter) if you’re going to make something like that available to the public, expect to hear about it.
Social media is not going away anytime soon either. Whether or not we like it, it’s here to stay. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said of common sense.
