Snow Blowers: Single Stage Vs Dual Stage

The most important fact about snowblowers that people need to understand is that they come in all kinds of various shapes and sizes and with different steering features, types of engine and power capacities. Furthermore, there are two different ways that they work. One type of this machine is the single stage operation while the other type is the dual stage operation.

Single Stage

Single stage snowblowers are defined by the fact that they only have one, sole way of dealing with the snow in their path. Essentially, they lack one set of throwers to help clear the snow more quickly, and their augers do not handle harder or wetter snow as well as more powerful dual stage models. Single stage models are the most basic of these machines, and they will handle snowfall that's light and fluffy. The throw range is around 15-25 feet. The clearing width is from 18 to 22 inches, and these machines are best for working on a paved surface.

Dual Stage

Dual stage snowblowers feature augers that are curved in such a way that they cut into the snow and then feed it back to the machine. There are actually two stages of snow removal. The 2ns stage is its high-speed impeller, which can be best likened to a really fast paddle wheel on an paddle boat. This high-speed impeller quickly throws loose snow up the chute as it spins at very fast speeds. As a result of this 2nd stage, these snowblowers are capable of shooting snow between 35 feet and 50 feet. They can handle snowfalls up to 18 feet, heavy and wet snow and feature a clearing width of up to 36 feet. Unlike single stage snowblowers, these machines are not limited only to paved surfaces as they can also handle gravel surfaces. While the single stage machines cannot handle hilly drives, these dual stage ones can.

Before any person is read to buy a snowblower, he has to address his long-term needs. For example, if you only have a small walkway or driveway, then a single stage snowblower is just adequate enough for that job. However, if you have a bigger job at hand, then you will need to look at dual stage snowblowers. These kinds of machines will be able to tackle bigger jobs for years to come. As a result, you will be able to clear snow out of almost anywhere.
