The Effects on Health of Dirty Carpets


It is just typical for home owners to look for ways to enhance the beauty of their homes and most of the time, carpet use is an option that can never be disregarded because of the elegance and added beauty that it can guarantee. However, it should not be overlooked that along with its positive effects are the responsibilities that homeowners should adhere with in order to avoid the unwanted effects of carpet use.
Proper maintenance is required for carpets to be kept clean and fresh at all times. Carpet cleaning should be done regularly and though it may require you to exert some effort and allot some time, you cannot disregard the idea that its effects are geared towards preserving your most ideal health condition. Poor carpet maintenance can compromise the health of individuals and to give you some idea, here are some of the health hazards that may be acquired due to improper handling and use of carpets:

• Eczema: Dust mites that may be present in carpets can trigger the symptoms of eczema and if you cannot afford to replace carpeted floors with hardwood flooring, you should try to make it a point to practice regular carpet care and maintenance. Vacuum at least twice a week to make sure that it will be free of dust mites.

• Asthma: People with asthma are very sensitive to dusts and allergens so if you want to make sure that carpet at home will not trigger asthma attacks, proper maintenance will be required to decrease the health hazard that it may cause.

• Respiratory diseases: The dust and dirt that may be present in your carpet may be too small to be inhaled and pass through the respiratory tract. Irritation is most likely to occur once carpet dusts and fibers get into your system and may become the reason for respiratory diseases to be triggered.

• Skin Itching: The dirt that may be present in your carpet may become the reason for skin irritation to be experienced. Getting in contact with dusts can be very harmful for sensitive skin and may become the reason for rashes and spots to appear.

Carpets can easily acquire dusts from the environment, pets, people, and other things around your home. It will be difficult to deal with spills and stains especially when it seeps through its inner parts but nevertheless, this should not become the excuse for you to fall short on the maintenance requirements of your carpet.
