Florida - A Sunny Holiday in the Sunshine State


Florida is the 4th most populous state in the United States of America. Famous for its glorious beaches and wildlife, this state attracts more than 60 million tourists from across the globe every year. Needless to say, it is the top travel destination state in the United States.



Although Florida has a pleasant weather throughout the year, it is best to visit the state in spring and autumn seasons. During this time you will be able to avoid high accommodation and air fares. Avoid visiting between June and October if you don't want to witness hurricanes. Summers are usually crowded and the hotels will leave you with a hole in your pocket. However, it is a good time to obtain cheap airfares to Florida.

Flights to Florida are usually served by Orlando International Airport, Miami International Airport, Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and Tampa International Airport. July is typically the best month to obtain cheap airfares. TAP Air Portugal operates one of the cheap flights to Florida. JetBlue Airways, KLM, Delta Airlines and Air France are also known for providing the best airfares.

Catholic, Mainline Protestant and Evangelical Protestant are the three major denominational groups in the state of Florida. Although mostly Protestant, the state has Roman Catholicism as its single largest denomination.

Other than English recognized as the first language of the state the public education system of Florida has over 150 languages. However, more than half the population speaks English as its first language, followed by Spanish and French Creole.

The state has a rich historical, architectural and cultural heritage. The Archer Historical Society Railroad Museum is one of the major attractions of the place. The Amelia Island Museum of History, Civil War Soldiers Museum, Columbia County Historical Museum and Coral Castle are other majestic antiques you should pay a visit.

Florida hosts a lot of colorful events and festivals. The Art Basel Miami Beach festival is the biggest art festival held in the city of Miami. The Zora! Festival is one of the state's major black heritage festivals. The Gasparilla Pirate Festival, Winter Park Sidewalk Art Festival, Biketoberfest and St. Augustine Nights of Lights are some other festivals which attract tourists.

Florida has one of the world's most unique cuisines. Florida's original Spanish and Southern cuisines have blended through the years with diverse cultures to create a mouthwatering range of delicacies. Ola at the Sanctuary, Victoria and Albert's, La Rosa and Chatham's Place are few of the state's fantastic restaurants.

Florida boasts of a dazzling nightlife throughout the year. Every city has its own list of nightclubs. Pleasure Island, Duval Street, The Elbo Room, Ybor City and Milltop Tavern are some of the places you definitely shouldn't skip.
