Training Labrador-Retrievers

Training Labrador-Retrievers.

Choose your dog with care as you are probably going to be together for 10 to 15 years.

At the breeders when checking for 'possibles'  look for bright eyes, good coats and big paws, straight back, and a general all over indefinable 'healthy glow'

Of course, if you are at a registered breeding kennels, many of the pups will already be displayingall good behavior and obedience traits. And most of the pups should be in 100% perfect health, or else they would not be on display.

Even so, minimise the risk of buying a less than perfect animal by checking basics as described. If possible take along a friend who has experience win training a dog, or you may be lucky enough to know a  dog trainer, skilled in dog obedience training... In particular Labrador-Retrievers.

Always try to view the parents of a litter.Check that the mother and father are not overlyaggressive in response to your handling of their offspring. If you are searching for a hunting dog, who will be a pet also, ask if it is possible to see a brief demonstration of the parent dogs abilities.

Dogs need to run and walk, and you must be prepared to do quite a lot of walking yourself, which is very beneficial to both of you. A puppy that is less than 9 months of age, requiresat least an hour a day, preferably half in the AM and half in the PM. An adult dog needs at least one and a half hours walking and if possible chasing a ball per day.

One of the first steps in your Pups education is to stop it chewing! The first cause of a new pup chewing slippers for example, is usually Fido simply being naturally boisterous and having 'fun', Although In some cases puppies, like children, go through a teething stage. When they chew, it gives comfort to their gums. So once they get used to it, they will start chewing on anything they can fit in their mouth. Pups are playful, and they find it fun to chomp on things.

Labrador/Retrievers dogs are noted for their thinking ability, loyalty, and hunting prowess. They are also an adoring pet dog. They are outstanding buddies for people of every age group. Lab pups will  a great deal of vitality, and listlessness generally is a indication that some health problems may exist. If this situation persists, a visit to the Vet's should follow.

If you are going to enjoy hunting with your pet, make sure he/she is not frightened by the sound of firearms going off. (Not usual in this breeds) These dogs are smart and are equipped for defining signals and whistles, (See the sheep dogs in Australia at work, often mixed breed) Their learning and working ability result in pre- designated duties that they can interpret without being prompted.

Apart from superb hunting and locating game abilities, Lab. Retrievers are also easily trained. Normally, Labrador Retrievers are selected as pet companions, while retaining the added benefit of tracker dog characteristics.
