Itchy Scalp Home Remedies

An itchy scalp is an irritating and inconvenient problem and can often lead to embarrassing situations. An important meeting or a hot date can turn out less desirably when you’re constantly running your fingernails across your scalp. The situation could become much worse if there’s obvious flaking. But luckily there are natural itchy scalp home remedies that can help relieve this problem
Like most skin conditions, an itchy scalp is both medical and cosmetic. This can be caused by a variety of different conditions that range from bacterial infections to systemic diseases. As with most remedies, it is important to properly identify and diagnose the cause of an itchy scalp. You should consult your doctor to get a proper diagnosis of what is causing your itchy scalp.

Possible Causes of an Itchy Scalp

The most common cause of an itchy scalp is dandruff, also known as seborrheic dermatitis. Other common causes include skin conditions like allergic contact dermatitis, irritant contact dermatitis, psoriasis in the scalp, folliculitis, and other bacterial and fungal infections. There are other conditions that increase the risk of developing head lice, like bad or inadequate hygiene, dry scalp, sunburn, use of chemical hair care products, and stress.

Rubbing lemon juice on your scalp can help alleviate irritation. Just make sure to rinse it off your hair after a few minutes.

Simply washing your hair on a regular basis can help you avoid dryness, buildup of dirt and oils, and head lice. Combing your hair before bed can improve blood circulation.

Applying aloe vera to your scalp for 10-15 minutes before rinsing is an excellent itchy scalp home remedy.

Natural oils like lavender, eucalyptus, and chamomile are great remedies to help relieve an itchy scalp. You may apply these oils either individually or in mixture along your scalp, massaging to help spread it around the area.

Other natural oils that can help relieve itchiness in the scalp are coconut oil, olive oil, and tea tree oil.

It is important to remember that many of these home remedies don’t necessarily eliminate the causes of an itchy scalp, but they help relieve the discomfort and even help protect you from further bacterial infections that cause itching and irritation to the scalp. Always seek advice from your physician when diagnosing and treating these conditions.
