It can be a daunting process looking at holiday parks, however you can make it a fun experience if you know what to look for before you visit them.
I have pulled together a brief list of questions you should ask and the things you should look out for when you walk around holiday parks.
1) Is it open when you need it?
The majority of holiday parks are NOT residential. Therefore they will close for a period of time throughout each season.
On average holiday parks open for 10 months of the year with the other 2 months catered for maintenance activities. You should check when the holiday park opens and closes and ensure that they meet with when you are wanting to use your holiday home.
2) Does it have the facilities you need?
Do you need a bar, arcade and restaurant? Some parks don't offer any facilities at all and their site fees will tend to reflect that.
However if you like to dine out occasionally or fancy a drink ensure that the park offers the facilities you need.
Many parks that have facilities will also organise events throughout the season. Ask what and when these occur and see if they are something that you would enjoy.
3) Location, Location, Location!
It's an obvious point to mention, but check that the location of the caravan park is where you want to spend your holiday time.
If you like walking are these walks nearby? Are the local attractions something you would enjoy?
Have a look at a few parks to compare their location in proximity to where you will be spending your time.
4) Site Fees
Are the site fees something that you can afford every year? Holiday parks will charge a rent each year for the plot your caravan resides. You need to check what these costs are and are they within your budget.
You can always look at renting your caravan out however you should be able to cover the costs of site fees in case you don't.
5) Can you afford the caravan insurance?
This is a very big part of owning a static caravan. The costs are not that high and some parks will even include standard insurance with your annual site fee but you should ask the question when talking to the sales advisor.
Please ensure that you ensure your static caravan with enough cover and read the policy wording carefully before you sign the policy to ensure that your covered.
6) Choose your plot carefully
There will be a few plots available for you on each park you look at. However check each one of them out and ask your sales advisor to show you all of the plots available.
Does the plot meet with your requirements? Not all plots are the same size. Some come with gardens, some just a place to park your car so be wary to ensure you get the plot that meets your requirements not only today but for the future as well.
7) Your choice of caravan
Does it have enough bedrooms? Is the living space big enough for you? Do you need a bath tub? Is the layout of kitchen what you need?
Static caravans come in many sizes with the standard width now being 12'. However you can get different widths and lengths and all of them will have slightly different layouts and facilities.
