Features of Single Colour LED Tape

Single Colour LED Tape is the perfect choice for anyone that wants to add an extra layer of ambience to their home or business. Single Colour Tape can be used in a number of applications, both aesthetic and practical. Their subtle colouration can be used to compliment or enhance the existing aesthetic of a room as the light is consistent with that used to create general ambience. They can also be used as the primary light source, serving a strictly utilitarian purpose as task lighting or general illumination. Regardless of what you decide to do with it you can rest assured that the flexible and compact design of LED Tape makes it one of the most versatile luminaries available on the lighting market.

The main component of the strip light is the flexible strip. This is a long 'ribbon' of flexible circuit board, which has small SMDs (Surface Mounted Devices) soldered to its upper side. The SMDs resemble small yellow coloured squares. Depending on the number of LEDs per metre purchased the frequency with which these SMDs appear along the length of the strip light will vary. The SMDs also come in two different varieties known as 3528 and 5050. These number refer to the size of the individual chips, 3.5mm by 2.8mm and 5.0mm by 5.0 mm respectively. As a rule of thumb, a greater number of LEDs per metre and larger LEDs will make the strip light brighter. It will also make it more energy intensive.

On the opposite side of the LED Tape there will be a layer of 3M adhesive tape, unless otherwise stated. This allows you to stick the strip down onto a host of different surfaces, including fabrics and metals. Simply remove the backing and attach to the surface.

The tape also features cutting points spaced evenly along its length. These are used to cut the strip and can be done by anyone. The beauty of LED Tape is that when you cut throught the tape it remains a closed circuit so will continue to work, even if the opposite end isn't connected to anything. At the other end you will have your wire connection that comes off the strip light and into a 12V transformer.

All strip lights run at low voltage. This means they require a 12V transformer in order to work. The transformer also acts as the power supply with a maximum load. If the total wattage of your strip lights exceed this load you will experience performance issues. That is why it is always important to calculate the load of your LED Tape before you buy.

Single Colour LED Tape is available in two colour temperatures; warm white and cool white. The former is suitable for ambient lighting as it produces a soft, incandescent coloured glow, similar to that produced by filament based lighting. The alternative is cool white which is much brighter and slightly clinical. It is better used to create accenting effects.
