Choosing the Right form of Senior Housing Facility

It is very important to know the various different options that are available when it comes to the different forms of senior housing and living facilities. Sometimes a loved one may no longer be able to function in their own home due to some illness or sickness even if the family tries its best. This is when the family needs to decide the suitable living facility for their loved one. It may seem to be an intimidating task to choose the right type of facility but it becomes fairly easy with some knowledge and research.
The different forms of senior living facilities available today are as listed below:

•Assisted Living: Such type of a living facility is for those seniors who are not able to care for themselves. It has to offer the independence and the comfort which is not obtainable in a nursing facility. It provides one-on-one services by the caregiver but only for short intervals daily. Various other group activities are also available throughout the day. You can find very good facilities for assisted living.

•Independent Living: In such a facility the senior is often self-sufficient but does not live alone entirely. A good independent facility will be able to provide different activities such as shopping or field trips. Independent communities are sometimes also referred to as senior apartments or active adult communities.

•Nursing Home: Such type of a facility is a type of a senior housing where there is a 24 hour care facility. The medical professionals are always on call or on site in such facilities. Here the residents are assisted when bathing, eating, using the bathroom, getting in and out of bed, bathing etc. The medications are also regulated here with the some group facilities being offered. Some nursing house facilities also have to offer special units for dementia and Alzheimer’s.

•Adult Daycare: Such facilities have to offer rehabilitation, meals, medical services and various social activities which enable the caregiver to be present at these household errands while maintaining employment.

•Continuing Care Retirement: This is the most upcoming form of senior living facilities. One can find a range of various facilities mixed in such a campus right from nursing facilities to assisted living. It removes the stigma from the people who require a more intensive form of care.

The decision to move the loved one into such a senior living facility is never easy for the family. The family will have to honestly and perfectly assess the loved one’s mental, lifestyle and physical needs. Before choosing the living facility, be sure to check and visit the place yourself first and find out what options are available first. You can find many good options for senior housing.
